Renovation of a 100m2 family apartment for Californian clients.
The study was done remotely, as it often is with our clients. We had to put in a lot of thought into proposing a project that satisfied our client’s requests : at least three bedrooms, two bathrooms, air-conditioning, and keeping the volume of the street side rooms (that is, 70m2).
We suggested to move the kitchen into a street side room, turning it into a dining-room /kitchen, and kept the beautiful living room as it was. We suggested to also create a street side bedroom, by turning the adjoining walk-in closet into a bathroom.
The kitchen was turned into a guest bedroom, and the office into a child’s bedroom.
We were assisted by the talented Ashley Maddox for the choices in materials, colors and furniture. Her expert eye in decoration elevated the project to a new level.
The apartment has not undergone much renovating since the 80s, so we entirely redid the electricity, plumbing, windows.
We restored the old hardwood floors in some of rooms, and seamlessly put in new ones in other rooms. The result is spectacular, but also and most importantly, invisible.
In the living room, we restored the moldings and woodwork, as well as old door locks from Remy Garnier https://www.remygarnier.fr/ .
We added many lights and sockets. We used MODELEC equipment, and in particular the bronze confidence collection https://www.modelec.com/fr/nos-collections/collection-confidence
We also did this in the bedroom, where we created two made-to-measure closets, one of which hides an AC unit, as well as a made-to-measure head board, with two lateral drawers.
For the master bathroom, we used cement tiles from Popham, which we contrasted with large Statuario marble-effect tiles from Imola Ceramica. The heated floor can be remotely controlled for added comfort https://www.schluter-systems.fr/ditra-heat-sol-tempere-electrique.aspx.
For the sanitary appliances : a sink from the British brand Burlington https://www.burlingtonarcade.com/ and brass taps from Studio ORE https://www.studio-ore.com/. The shower screen was made to measure.
The guest lavatory communicates with the master bathroom through a sliding door. A dark Pierre Frey wall paper and patinated mirrors dress up the room.
The flush is a simple brass button from Studio Ore.
We recreated woodwork for the curved hallway and shifted the access to the second bathroom.
In the guest bedroom (which is where the kitchen was), we installed an AC unit inside a made to measure closet. We also hid a MIELE washing mashing and dryer which we stacked in a vertical made to measure closet.
The child’s bedroom is beautifully decorated with a hand painted silk De Gournay wall paper.
Lastly, the made to measure kitchen is in two tones, with a splash back and working plan in Silestone calacata, and has a Lacanche stove.
